HELLO!

          August 31, 2020

          HELLO!

I am HERE! I am serving in the Pogradec, Albania area.  I am still shocked that I am here!!  All my reassigned missionaries out there, you are not far behind:).  Pogradec is in the South, right on a huge lake and the weather is SO NICE. It is a very small city. It's beautiful here and the people are so kind! We have so many members in this branch. It is the best.

My companion is Motra Çermeli and she is Albanian! She speaks English well and is helping me with my Albanian so much. She is awesome and we get along really well!!  She doesn't know how to drive though, and starting this week we need to use the car. Bahahah the drivers here are literally psycho. I have a feeling I'll fit in okay.

Albania is seriously amazing. I knew that Albania was a poor country, but I didn't think it was this poor.  I feel like I'm in Mexico sometimes. It's interesting because there are so many beautiful monuments and buildings and views and plazas and it can feel soo European but then boom all of a sudden it's a completely different world. The people are so kind. They just give and give and give. I love them so much!!

Covid does not exist here. I haven't touched a mask since I got off the plane. It is awesome! We had two hours of church with no masks yesterday. I had to bear my testimony and we had to teach Young Womens very last second but it was good.

Laughs this week:

-I tried to talk to the older man sitting next to me on the plane to Albania.  Somehow he thought I was a communist and was reallyyy really mad at me. After processing what had just happened, I turned and told him I wasn't a communist. We were tight after that haha.

-Day 2 in Albania, the Elders in our district were driving us to our city after zone conference and AFTER getting pulled over AND let off by the police, we didn't stop in time for the stopped car in front of us (?) hahah and hit them, causing them to hit the next car. We just walked away from that too. That's Albania for you. Quote of the day "Oh shoot. The brakes stopped working." Mmhm.

-Also on day 2 we met the branch and I couldn't understand or speak at all.  At my most overwhelmed point I walked into the bathroom for a breather and of course it was the men's bathroom. I lost it. Don't worry, I had a good laugh about it too.

I have had so many moments this week where I felt God's love so strongly. Mostly for the members. They are so faithful! I have also felt this week that God is perfectly aware of me. He is always reaching out to us and we are never actually alone.

Also LISTEN to "Kuq e Zi" by Elvana Gjata. It's the "anthem" and it is so hype. I love it.

Thanks for reading.
Ju dua shumë!! I love you all!!
